Tips for choosing a syringe size

We highly recommend checking out Getting Off Right: A Safety Manual for Injection Drug Users: https://harmreduction.org/drugs-and-drug-users/drug-tools/getting-off-right/

27 gauge

  • If you have trouble registering (veins move around or you have vein damage)

  • If you inject cocaine, pills, or other thick substances

  • If you often inject in a hurry

28, 29 gauge

  • If you’re pretty good at hitting a vein

  • If you can spend a little time finding a good vein

30 gauge

  • If you have no problem hitting a vein on the first try

  • Excellent for minimal scarring

31 gauge

  • Has better action, good for using if you have trouble registering

  • Will reduce chance of injecting through smaller veins

1cc vs. 1/2 cc

  • 1cc is a larger barrel which makes it easier to go from site to site if you can’t keep a vein, use it if you have trouble registering

  • 1/2cc is good if you need less room to register, for occasional users, or if you have fewer problems hitting a vein
