New & Improved Resources Page

NEXT Distro is proud to announce our upgraded Resources / Education collection.

For this project, NEXT collaborated with content experts, artists, health professionals, and harm reductionists from across the United States. Our goal was to develop open access, relevant, peer-reviewed harm reduction resources that were bilingual and could be easily utilized by harm reduction programs and advocates. All the text-based resources created through this project are downloadable. Printable (double-sided, half page) versions of the zines can be found on our comprehensive Launch Page.

Funding for this project was supported through a Rapid Response grant from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.

What Is Harm Reduction?

Artist Statement: I made this zine in an attempt to answer the question “What is harm reduction?” for people who have never encountered it. I wanted to include the historical and political background in a short-form, easy to understand way that I haven't seen before. We don't exist in a vacuum and understanding things like the War on Drugs, systemic oppression, and mass incarceration, are central to the reason why the harm reduction movement was created and why we still need it today.

Artist Statement: This project combines my love for cryptids and aliens with my desire to spread a universal understanding of why harm reduction is a vital form of community care. These creatures add an approachable nature to the project to make the contents digestible to a broader public. I used accessible materials like pencil and printer paper to keep true to zine’s roots as a form of radical self-publication. I hope this project inspires the readers to create zines so they can spread art, ideas, and knowledge within their communities.

Artist Statement: I'm excited to share this information because the well-being of people who use injection drugs matters - mind and body. Since the skin is the body's biggest organ, it's very important to overall health and well-being. With the right safer use information, and the right safer use supplies, people can inject drugs with much lower risk of scars, bruises, pain, and wounds. I hope this guide to skin care for people who use injection drugs equips people with some clear steps they can take to give themselves the care their body and selves deserve.

Complete Resource Library

Another advancement supported by this work was improvements to the functionality of our resource library. By developing a cadre of search terms for each resource, the NEXT team boosted our search bar function to better serve website visitors.

This work is ongoing. If you would like to help us continue to improve and maintain our harm reduction resource library, we are currently looking for volunteers to support the upkeep and dexterity of the site.
